They’re just kids! The girl scouts do receive specific guidance to try to prevent their being a nuisance like to not ask people on their way into the store and not to hound people who don’t want to buy. So if you just say “no, thank you” you should be able to escape unscathed.

Help Me Fix My Mistakes
Maybe it would have worked out regardless. I know when I’m on the other end, like on servicing, I’m more likely to want to put in the extra effort to make a not-strictly-required ask work for a customer when they frame it as “yes, we know it’s our fault, but please help us anyway.”
